W. Vartanian & Son, Inc. continues a family tradition of selling rugs that goes back to 1950. Walter Vartanian, Sr., an Armenian immigrant, founded a small carpet installation service with his son, Wally Jr., in Palatine, Illinois. The Vartanians earned a reputation for honesty, integrity and fine workmanship and their business prospered. With the intention of retiring in Door County, Wally Jr. sold the business in Palatine in 1994. His retirement ended in 2003 when he and his son, Wally Frederick, decided to open a rug specialty shop on Bay Shore Drive in Sister Bay, Wisconsin.
